Your Checklist for Moving to a New State

Are you moving from one state to another? My name is Laura, and I am a real estate expert. I work in multiple states and find that many of my clients don't know that each state has different laws about moving. For example, some states require you to get a new drivers license and car registration immediately while others give you a significant grace period. Some states require you to pay a fee for property you register while others do not. I will provide a checklist of things you need to consider before moving from one state to another. I hope you will learn a lot that can make your move easier.

Your Checklist for Moving to a New State

Hiring Moving Services To Handle Your Long Distance Move

by Lester Herrera

Moving is never fun, and the added stress of a long-distance move or relocation can make the process difficult and time-consuming. Working with professional movers to handle the hardest parts of your move can be beneficial. While the cost may seem high at first, the savings can be greater than first realized when you assess all the costs of moving yourself and your family over a long distance.

Finding A Mover

The first step in hiring movers is finding a company available to move you when you need them. Large moving services often schedule trips in blocks because it allows them to group several clients for more efficient use of resources.

If you are moving in the first week of the month and need to be in your new home in three weeks' time, the moving company will look for other clients in the same area that meet the same conditions, then set up your moving services to take advantage of this. Your boxes and furniture may use half the moving van's capacity, but the other client moving around the same time and to a location close to you or along the route can use the rest of the cargo area, and the truck and movers can knock out tow moves at one time.

This system works well and has been in use by large moving companies for many years to reduce costs and allow the movers to offer lower rates to clients. However, this method can make it harder to pin down a specific date that the movers will arrive at your new home, so often they schedule deliveries around a date, allowing one day on either side of the expected date for delivery.

Because of this scheduling method, you will need to find movers that can meet the deadline, but you still must be flexible in the time you expect things to arrive and be moved into your home.

Meeting Your Movers

When you use a moving service to take your belongings to your new home, you will need to meet them at the destination for unloading. It is vital to be there a day or two early because if the truck arrives ahead of time, someone needs to let them into the house so they can get everything off the truck quickly.

If you are driving to your new home, you can often make better time than a loaded moving truck and still allow time along the way to see the sights and enjoy the road trip. Talk with the driver when they pick up your items, and be sure they can contact you when they are nearing your new home. Often the driver will call and let you know when to expect them, and you or your real estate agent can meet them when they arrive.
